Karshaka Devo Bhava

"Honour the Farmer, Sustain the Future"

The Philosophy

In Indian culture, we say "Acharya Devo Bhava" (Teacher is God) and "Atithi Devo Bhava" (Guest is God). At Samudha Foundation, we believe it is time to add a new mantra to our collective consciousness: "Karshaka Devo Bhava" — The Farmer is God.

This initiative is not just about charity; it is about gratitude. It is a systemic approach to restoring the dignity and economic viability of farming in India.

Our Holistic Approach

The Four Pillars of Support

Seeds and Hands

1. Essential Inputs

The cost of cultivation is rising while yields stagnate. We tackle this by providing high-quality, indigenous seeds and organic fertilisers at subsidised rates or free of cost to marginal farmers.

  • Seed banks for native varieties.
  • Tool libraries for small machinery.
Irrigation

2. Water & Soil Health

Water scarcity and soil degradation are existential threats. We focus on micro-irrigation solutions and soil restoration techniques that use less water and improve long-term fertility.

  • Drip irrigation kit distribution.
  • Free soil health cards and testing.
Farmer Training

3. Knowledge & Innovation

Bridging the gap between the lab and the land. We organise field schools where agricultural scientists and experienced farmers share best practices.

  • Mobile advisory services for pest control.
  • Training in organic farming methods.
Community Support

4. Safety Nets

Farming is risky. We help de-risk it by facilitating access to government schemes, crop insurance, and providing emergency financial aid during natural calamities.

  • Insurance premium support.
  • Mental health counselling helplines.
